Volunteer/Internship
Rhode Island School for the Deaf values the contributions of interns and volunteers as part of our mission to promote knowledge, awareness, inclusion, and training. We ensure all participants receive quality supervision, training, and meaningful experiences.
Student Interns
We collaborate with colleges and universities offering pre-service training in fields related to our mission. Institutions receive detailed information about potential opportunities and participation requirements, often formalized through a written agreement. To request an internship, please contact the Director at smcgaughey@rideaf.net.
Community Volunteers
We welcome volunteer inquiries from community members. Parents are always encouraged to volunteer. Classroom opportunities require sign language skills, while some non-classroom roles may not.
Volunteer Requirements
All volunteers must commit to the remainder of the school year and provide the following information:
- Current ASL skill level
- Availability (hours/days)
- Age group or area of interest (e.g., older students, library, office)
- Prior experience with deaf individuals
Please contact us if you are interested or have any questions.
