Transition Program

At the Rhode Island School for the Deaf, we help students prepare for life beyond school by focusing on their goals, preferences, and strengths. Starting early, the IEP team works with students and families to plan meaningful, long-term outcomes in education, employment, and independent living.

Our Services: 

- Career Assessments and Counseling

- Academic and Course Advising

- Career Exploration

- College Preparation: ACT/SAT, college tours, applications, financial aid, and scholarships

- Parent Support and Community Resources

- Vocational-Technical Training

- School/Work Partnerships: Summer job experiences

Specialized Academies:

Independence Academy (ages 18–21): Life skills, decision-making, adult health, and functional academics.

Transition Academy: A one-year program for college or job readiness, emphasizing financial literacy, advocacy, and work experience.

We are committed to helping students achieve their post-secondary goals and thrive as adults.
