Hearing Screening Services
Our team of three dedicated audiology support personnel, supervised by a licensed educational audiologist, conduct hearing screenings for approximately 50,000 school children across Rhode Island annually. Collaborating closely with school nurses, these professionals visit public schools (including charter schools), parochial schools, private schools, and special education programs to screen children from kindergarten through 3rd grade, as well as public preschools.
Screening and Referrals
Of the children screened, about 5% are referred for further diagnostic evaluations. Among those re-screened, approximately 3-4% are identified as having hearing loss. Early detection is crucial, as hearing loss can significantly impact communication, language development, and learning progress.
Clinic Services
We offer free comprehensive hearing evaluations to Rhode Island residents ages 9 months - 18 years old. In our clinic, we are committed to serving families of diverse linguistic backgrounds. For families who are not fluent in English, we provide interpreter services through the child's insurance plan, to ensure clear communication and access to care.
