About RISD
A place where every child belongs, learns, and grows.
Established in 1876, Rhode Island School for the Deaf (RISD) is the state’s only specialized school dedicated to serving Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing students. RISD provides a bilingual education in American Sign Language (ASL) and English, fostering academic excellence, language development, and social-emotional growth.
With a commitment to inclusivity and accessibility, RISD offers individualized learning experiences, cutting-edge technology, and a strong community partnership to empower students from infancy through high school. Our mission is to prepare students for successful futures by promoting self-advocacy, confidence, and lifelong learning.
RISD also collaborates with families, educators, and professionals to support Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals statewide, ensuring equal access to education and opportunity.
