Audiology Services
RISD’s Audiology Center, staffed with two licensed audiologists, provides daily support for hearing aids, FM technology, and cochlear implants. Audiology Test Technicians conduct annual screenings for approximately 50,000 young children across Rhode Island.
Comprehensive School Counseling Team
Our Counseling Team supports students' academic, emotional, and social development. The team includes the school counselor, educational psychologist, guidance counselor, social worker, and transition coordinator, working closely with students, staff, and families.
Speech & Language Services
RISD’s licensed Speech & Language Pathologists provide individual and group therapy to support language development, communication skills, and auditory training for students using cochlear implants. Services are tailored to each student’s IEP.
Occupational and Physical Therapy Services
Licensed occupational and physical therapists provide support for motor skills, sensory issues, and coordination, with therapy sessions in both individual and classroom settings.
Positive Behavioral Support
When language development is still growing, communication challenges can arise. RISD teaches behavior expectations as part of the curriculum, ensuring students understand and meet these expectations in all school activities. Our behavioral support team, under the supervision of the Special Education Administrator, helps students clarify language, understand expectations, and reduce challenging behaviors to promote a positive learning environment.
