RI School for the Deaf Outreach Services include:
- Consultation and inservice training for teachers and support staff working with deaf and hard of hearing students in their classrooms.
- Consultation to Special Education Directors and their staff regarding technology and interpreters for students in the mainstream.
- Diagnostic assessment
- Placement evaluation
- Monitoring of academic progress
- Support groups for mainstreamed students and their families
The Rhode Island School for the Deaf recognizes the challenges that many deaf and hard of hearing children experience in public schools. Efforts are made to network many of these students and families from different communities through group meetings, summer camps, and informal get-togethers. Often public school students visit their friends at the School for the Deaf and join them for social activiites, dramatic presentations and athletic events.
