Mission
The Rhode Island Hearing Center provides comprehensive audiological evaluations and outreach services for all children of our state, free of charge. Preschool children through college are all welcome. In addition the Hearing Center carries out the public mandate to screen the hearing of school age children (Pre K, 1, 2, & 3) throughout Rhode Island.
Staff
Audiologists are Albert E. Lake, M.S., CCC-A and Luz Adley, M.S., CCC-A (bilingual/Spanish). Audio Test Technicians are Kim Kaminski, Carolina Marroquin, and Nicole Passarelli. Our secretary is Cindy Saunders. A group of college interns from the Rhode Island College Speech and Hearing program augment out school screening each semester.
Update
At the end of the school year the Hearing Screening Program has seen 66,175 Rhode Island school children. We look forward to being able to accomplish this task again for the 2005-2006 school year. Of these, 4.76% were referred for follow-up evaluation. The Hearing Center completes about 3,000 audiological evaluations each year. Audiologists routinely consult with local schools concerning educational issues and specific rehabilitation needs for hearing aids, school FM systems, and other assistive devices.
